Why we included this project
ZenNotes is for people who want notes that stay ordinary Markdown files on disk while still giving an AI assistant real access to them. It adds Vim-style editing, split panes, tasks, tags, daily notes, and diagram support to a vault you own, and the desktop and self-hosted web runtimes can point at the same files. The bundled first-party MCP server is what makes it interesting for AI workflows: Claude, Codex, or any MCP-capable tool can read and update the same vault you work in, so your notes become usable context for an assistant rather than a closed box. The web edition runs on a Go server, which is a good fit if you want to avoid third-party sync. If local-first note-taking with real LLM tooling access matters to you, this sits in a practical middle ground.
