Why we included this project

DBX is a good fit for anyone who spends the workday inside a database client and is tired of heavyweight, subscription-priced tools. It comes as a Tauri desktop app, a Docker image, and a CLI, and it talks to a wide range of engines, including MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQLite, Redis, MongoDB, DuckDB, SQL Server, and Dameng, so one tool can cover most of a team's data work. The part that stands out for AI users is the built-in assistant and the Rust-based MCP server, which lets MCP-compatible agents inspect schemas and run policy-scoped queries against connections you already manage in DBX. That means an AI coding agent can work against your real databases without being handed raw credentials, and the connection allowlist plus execution modes keep the blast radius small. Teams that want a fast, self-hostable database client with a practical AI hook rather than a separate agent stack will find the setup straightforward.
