Why we included this project

QOwnNotes is a desktop notepad that keeps your notes as plain Markdown files you fully own, and it has grown a practical AI layer on top of that core job. If you already use Nextcloud or ownCloud, it syncs notes there and adds todo management, hierarchical tagging, and subfolders, which makes it a dependable everyday notebook. The AI features are opt-in: you can connect it to a hosted provider like OpenAI or Groq, or to a local model server such as Ollama or llama.cpp, to autocomplete, summarize, translate, or fix typos and grammar right in the editor. It also includes an MCP server that exposes note search and fetch tools to external agents, so an assistant can read and query your notes. For a local-first, cross-platform notes app with optional LLM help and scripting hooks, this is a strong choice.
