Why we included this project

GIMP-ML puts a collection of computer vision models directly inside GIMP's Layer menu, so you can run AI-assisted edits without leaving the editor. The plugins cover routine cleanup work like object removal via inpainting, upscaling, deblurring, dehazing, denoising, and colorization, and extend to monocular depth estimation, face parsing, frame interpolation, and text-to-image generation through DALL-E 2 and 3. Because the operations run on the layer you are already editing, they fit into an existing workflow instead of forcing you to export files and run separate scripts. Be aware that some plugins rely on external models or services, and the main branch is effectively a legacy snapshot for GIMP 2.10 while active development continues in the separate GIMP3-ML branch. This suits GIMP users who want to experiment with modern AI editing techniques while staying in a familiar desktop tool.
