Why we included this project

Anyone paying for Kiro (Amazon Q Developer / AWS CodeWhisperer) already has access to free Claude-family models, but only inside Kiro's own IDE and CLI. Kiro Gateway runs a lightweight FastAPI proxy locally and exposes those models through standard OpenAI and Anthropic compatible APIs, so tools like Claude Code, Cursor, Cline, Continue, LangChain, and the OpenAI SDK can all talk to it. In practice it's an adapter layer that translates between the Kiro backend and the model APIs those clients expect. That makes sense if you want one gateway endpoint for your team's tooling, or if Kiro's native interface feels limiting. Model availability depends on your Kiro tier, and the README lists which models each tier includes, so you can check before you route traffic through it.
