Why we included this project
Sidekick is a native macOS app built to keep AI work on your own machine. It bundles a llama.cpp inference engine, so current GGUF models like Qwen3.5 run fully offline, and it answers from your own documents and the websites you point it at rather than shipping your data anywhere. The layer on top is where it earns its keep: you configure subject-specific "experts" that each hold a collection of materials, then ask a question and get an answer backed by direct quotes, page numbers, and references you can click to open the original paper. Web search, function calling, a deep-research agent, and on-device image generation round out the package, with no server to stand up and nothing else to install. For researchers, students, and professionals who want a private assistant that grounds its answers in their own materials, this covers it in one app.
