Why we included this project
Surf is a desktop app for people who do research across files, PDFs, webpages, and videos. It keeps those sources in a local library, lets you ask questions and write notes across them, and can search the web as part of that workflow. Everything stays on your machine in open formats, and you can run it against a local model instead of sending your data to a hosted API. That combination saves the back-and-forth of copying bits between tabs and documents, which is where most research time actually goes.
