Why we included this project

9router is a small local service that sits between your AI coding tools and the model providers, exposing a single OpenAI-compatible endpoint that can reach 40+ providers and 100+ models. The part that matters day to day is the fallback chain: you order subscriptions, cheap providers, and free tiers so that when one hits a rate limit or exhausts its quota, the next takes over and your session keeps running. It also compresses tool output like git diffs and file listings, cutting token use by 20-40%, and it tracks per-account quota so you actually use what you pay for instead of letting it expire. If you juggle several coding agents or multiple developer accounts, the round-robin and multi-account handling save real time. Because it runs locally, your prompts and code are not routed through a third-party cloud gateway.
