Why we included this project

The official data.gouv.fr MCP server connects the French national open data platform to any chatbot that supports the Model Context Protocol. Instead of browsing catalog pages in a browser, you can ask an assistant which datasets cover property prices or for recent population figures for Paris, and it pulls live answers straight from the platform. That is useful for products where answers should be grounded in current French public data rather than whatever the model remembers from training. A public instance is hosted at mcp.data.gouv.fr and connects to a wide range of chat clients, and you can also self-host a copy when you want more control over uptime and configuration.
