Why we included this project

Open Video Downloader is a desktop GUI for yt-dlp that spares you the command line. It's a native Windows, macOS, and Linux app built with Rust and Tauri, and it handles the usual chores: queueing downloads, choosing resolution and output format, saving subtitles and metadata, and pulling whole playlists. It works with hundreds of sites, not just YouTube. The queueing balances concurrent downloads so your machine stays responsive, and cookie files, basic auth, and video passwords cover sites that lock content behind a login. Both the app and the yt-dlp binary update themselves, which matters because streaming sites keep changing their endpoints. If you'd rather click than script your own pipeline, this is a maintained, actively developed option.
