Why we included this project
Paperless-ngx turns a stack of physical documents into a searchable web archive that you host yourself. Feed it scans or PDFs and its OCR makes the text findable, so you can locate an old bill by its contents instead of guessing which folder it sits in. The machine-learning classifier watches how you tag and file things, then starts suggesting tags and correspondents as new documents arrive. There's a web interface for day-to-day use and an API if you want to script your own workflows, and because everything runs on your own infrastructure you keep full control of the data. For anyone buried in paper, it's a practical way to end up with a durable, queryable digital record.
