Why we included this project
People who are tired of renting space for their photos on someone else's servers get a real alternative with Immich. The stack includes mobile apps and a web gallery, so a phone can continuously back up new photos and videos to hardware you own, and you can still browse and search the collection from anywhere. It goes beyond simple storage with face recognition, object and scene detection, and natural-language search, which keeps a large archive usable instead of being a black hole of old files. Everything runs on your own infrastructure, and the backup pipeline is yours from the camera to the disk. It is not a lightweight install, but for anyone who wants to run their own media platform, it holds up as a genuine replacement for the mainstream photo clouds.
