Why we included this project

When your daily work is Claude Code or Codex, most tokens you pay for are not the words you type but the files, command output, log dumps, and conversation context that get re-sent every turn. For teams whose token spend has grown into a real budget line, Headroom is a desktop tray app that drops a local proxy into that request path, compacting the repetitive, bulky parts while keeping a reference the agent uses to pull the original content back when it needs it. That reversibility is what makes the roughly 50 percent savings credible: nothing is lost, just set aside until required. The core engine is MIT-licensed, but the ready-made app is a paid subscription after a seven-day trial, so factor the plan into your budget before rolling it out. What the fee buys is the ability to stretch the plan you already pay for instead of stepping up to a pricier tier.
