Why we included this project
Archiving video or audio from streaming platforms usually means chasing a tangle of command-line flags, but ytDownloader wraps the yt-dlp engine and ffmpeg in a plain desktop interface. Paste a link, pick a format or audio bitrate, and the file is saved, with support stretching to hundreds of sites well beyond YouTube. The app also bundles a compressor, so you can shrink large clips for sharing or storage without opening a second tool. It is available on Windows, macOS, and Linux through AppImage, Snap, Flatpak, and native installers, which lets mixed-OS teams standardize on one downloader instead of maintaining per-platform scripts. If you need yt-dlp's reach but not its learning curve, this is a practical open alternative to proprietary download services.
