Why we included this project

Teams building chat and assistant interfaces in React can skip the slow work of designing every message bubble and conversation pane from zero. ai-elements ships ready-made components for conversations, individual messages, code blocks, and reasoning displays, built to work with Vercel's AI SDK. You install only the pieces you need through a CLI, and because each component is composable, it lands in your own codebase rather than behind a hosted widget, leaving you full control over styling and behavior. For Next.js and shadcn/ui projects already on Tailwind, this is a fast route to a consistent-looking AI interface without maintaining a custom design system from scratch. The time saved on the interface layer goes toward the model behavior and prompts underneath.
