Why we included this project

NextChat is a self-hostable chat client that puts a single interface in front of many different language models: OpenAI's GPT line, Claude, DeepSeek, Gemini, and models you run locally. You can deploy it on Vercel in about a minute or run it as a lightweight desktop app on Windows, macOS, and Linux. Conversations stay in the browser by default, and it handles streaming responses, markdown, prompt templates, and plugins like web search, which makes it useful both for everyday personal use and as a branded internal assistant for a team. Long chats get their history compressed to save tokens, so you can point one client at several providers without keeping a row of browser tabs open.
