Why we included this project
Saiku has been around since 2010 as an open-source OLAP browser and was rebuilt in 2026 as a semantic layer that gives Excel users, dashboard builders, and AI agents one cube to query. Spreadsheet clients connect over MDX/XMLA, dashboards use a typed REST API, and agents get an MCP wrapper, so every consumer reads the same numbers instead of maintaining its own copy. The Mondrian fork now ships a Calcite-based SQL planner, which lets analysts query cubes in plain SQL without learning MDX by hand, and the browser interface offers drag-and-drop exploration for the rest of the team. A single Docker container starts with a bundled demo cube, so you can evaluate the whole workflow locally before pointing it at production data. If your stack mixes spreadsheet-heavy finance reporting with newer agent-driven tooling, Saiku is worth evaluating as the shared metric layer in between.
