Why we included this project

Building a chatbot you can carry around usually means settling for a phone app or a tangle of wires. This project takes a different route: the software runs on a Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W or a Pi 5, snaps onto the PiSugar Whisplay HAT, and becomes a pocket-sized device that answers when you press a button and speak. Wake-word support lets you go hands-free, replies come through the built-in speaker, and there are extras like text-prompt image generation, a battery-level display, and optional accelerator cards (LLM8850, Hailo-10H) to run speech recognition and models locally instead of in the cloud. Pre-built images, an interactive `whisplay configure` wizard, a boot-at-startup script, and printable case designs give makers a fairly complete path from bare board to finished gadget. For anyone prototyping edge voice assistants, it is a concrete example of wiring ASR, an LLM, and TTS together on constrained hardware.
