Why we included this project

Practicing a language out loud is hard when you are self-conscious, and BabelDuck is built around removing that friction. It is a self-hosted web app that runs AI conversations for speaking practice, and it lets you ask for grammar and translation suggestions mid-chat without derailing the conversation. When an AI suggestion does not make sense, you can open a sub-conversation to question it and return to the main thread when you are done. Voice input and response are included, and since all data stays on your machine, your practice sessions stay private. It also works with several LLM providers and lets you switch between them, so you are not tied to one vendor. For learners who want a private, Docker-deployable setup instead of a hosted subscription, this is a solid option.
