Why we included this project
Running a service means answering two questions at once: is it actually up, and how do you tell users when it isn't. openstatus bundles both into one self-hostable platform, pairing uptime checks from 28 global regions with a status page that notifies subscribers by email, RSS, or webhook. The monitoring-as-code approach is the real draw for engineering teams: monitors, notifications, and status pages are defined in YAML and managed through a CLI, Terraform, or a typed API, so your reliability setup lives in the same repo as the rest of your infrastructure. The MCP server is a practical extra for teams that work with AI assistants, letting you query workspace state from Claude, ChatGPT, or Cursor without leaving the chat. For small teams, it offers a credible status page and alerting story without per-seat or per-subscriber fees.
