Why we included this project
Harness bundles the pieces a small platform team would otherwise assemble by hand: a Git-based source host, CI/CD pipelines, cloud development environments, and a container and package registry, all behind a single Docker command. Teams get one place to manage the delivery loop, from pushing code to shipping artifacts, without stitching together several paid services. Anyone weighing an open-source alternative to GitLab or a self-hosted internal developer platform will find the pipeline engine familiar, since Harness is the next-generation successor to Drone, with code hosting, developer environments, and registries added on top. Machine learning teams can run model build and test steps on the same pipelines and deploy trained models alongside application releases. The project is still catching up to Drone's full feature set, so teams with complex pipeline needs should check current capabilities before committing.
