Why we included this project
OpenPencil is the rare Figma alternative that reads and writes native .fig files, so an existing design workflow can move onto it without a forced one-way export. The AI is the practical kind: describe what you want in chat and one of 90+ tools creates or edits nodes, using whatever model provider you plug in, from OpenRouter to OpenAI. It is also genuinely programmable for a design editor, with a headless CLI, XPath queries, an MCP server, and a Vue SDK for inspecting documents, extracting tokens, or building a custom editing surface. The whole thing ships as a ~7 MB Tauri desktop app or a browser PWA, and collaboration is real-time P2P over WebRTC with no server or account involved.
