Why we included this project

This project turns a Raspberry Pi 3, 3B+, or 4 into a private voice assistant you control, by packaging the Mycroft assistant into a ready-to-burn microSD image. Add a speaker and a microphone and you have a hands-free conversational device without assembling the software stack yourself. The repo also documents the image build recipe and setup scripts, which helps if you want to reproduce or customize the deployment instead of just flashing the prebuilt card. It suits hobbyists and small teams prototyping a self-hosted voice assistant, though the official images have not been actively maintained since around 2022, so expect some DIY troubleshooting on current hardware.
