Why we included this project

For anyone who enjoys building characters and running long, immersive roleplay sessions, Risuai is a chat client that takes most of the plumbing out of talking to large language models. It works with OpenAI, Claude, Gemini, OpenRouter, and local setups like Ooba, so you can use your own API keys instead of being tied to one provider. The features target the parts of roleplay that usually get fiddly: group chats with several characters, lorebooks that keep world memory consistent, emotion portraits that shift with the character's mood, regex rules to reshape model output, and automatic translation when the model writes in a language you do not read. It ships as a Tauri desktop app as well as a web build, and the plugin system lets you add providers and features of your own. For people who want a scriptable, open client rather than a hosted service, there is a lot to configure here.
