Why we included this project

Better-chatbot is a self-hostable Next.js chat app that gives you a ChatGPT-style interface without building one from scratch. A single provider key is enough to route chats through OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, or Ollama, and the extras go beyond basic chat: image generation and a layered system-prompt setup are built in. The MCP integration is the part worth highlighting, since it lets the assistant call external tools mid-conversation, turning a simple chat into a lightweight agent workflow. You can deploy it to Vercel in a few clicks on your own, and teams can fork and rebrand it instead of depending on a closed SaaS product. It's a practical base for anyone who wants a chat interface they actually own and can customize.
