Why we included this project

py-xiaozhi is a Python client for the Xiaozhi voice assistant ecosystem, letting you turn a microphone and speaker into a conversational agent with wake-up handled on-device and dialogue carried over WebSocket or MQTT. It goes beyond plain chat: a camera adds vision understanding, and a modular MCP tool server lets the same assistant act, not just answer, for things like controlling music, taking screenshots, or toggling apps and devices. The codebase runs on desktop and ARM boards including Raspberry Pi, Jetson Nano, and ESP32-class hardware, which makes it a good fit for people wiring a language model into physical gadgets instead of being locked into a commercial speaker. A plugin architecture and event-driven core keep it extensible, so you can add custom tools without rewriting the pipeline.
