Why we included this project
SpeechGPT is a web app that lets you talk to ChatGPT out loud instead of typing. It comes with built-in speech recognition and synthesis, and you can swap in Azure Speech Services or Amazon Polly when you want higher-quality voices. All data stays stored locally, which keeps things private and simple. The real draw for many users is language practice: because the whole exchange happens by voice and the app supports over 100 languages, it's a low-friction way to rehearse speaking a foreign language. Since the code is open and free to modify, you can also run it on your own and adjust the interface to suit your needs.
