Why we included this project

Chromex puts a Codex-backed assistant in Chrome's side panel, so you can work with the page you're already looking at instead of copying text between a chat window and your browser. It can summarize the current page, compare several open tabs, or pull context from uploaded PDFs and Office files, and it can act on the page through content scripts with visible in-page activity indicators. Voice input, image editing, and a live translation mode round out the workflows, which makes it useful for people who want one assistant for everyday browsing and research rather than a separate coding tool. Because it keeps credentials out of extension storage and talks to a locally installed Codex CLI through a native bridge, it's a sensible front end for teams that already run Codex and want page-aware chat without sending browsing data to a third-party service.
