Why we included this project

Tired of squinting at raw .ipynb JSON every time a teammate touches a notebook? Deepnote swaps that format for a human-readable .deepnote YAML structure, so each notebook lives in its own clean file with integrations and settings alongside. Code cells, SQL blocks, inputs, and charts all sit in one block-based layout, validated through the open @deepnote/blocks package. The repo also ships a conversion CLI that moves notebooks between Jupyter, Quarto, percent-format, and Marimo while preserving metadata, which makes migrating and reviewing diffs far less painful. You can run it locally as an open-source notebook environment today and move the same project to the hosted cloud later for real-time collaboration and shared compute.
