Why we included this project
Coder runs cloud development environments on your own infrastructure and gives you a place to run AI coding agents alongside them. Workspaces are defined in Terraform, so teams can spin up EC2 VMs, Kubernetes pods, or Docker containers, and the secure WireGuard tunnel keeps the IDE experience close to working on a local laptop. Idle resources shut down automatically, which matters when many developers or agents are running at once and you want to keep the cloud bill under control. The agent loop executes in the control plane, so no LLM API keys end up inside workspaces, and you can point it at Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, Bedrock, or a self-hosted model. That makes it a practical pick for platform engineers who want one standard way to provision remote development environments and delegate coding work to agents across the team.
