Why we included this project

Materialize is the kind of tool a technical artist keeps on the desktop for turning a single photo into a full PBR texture set. Feed it one source image and it derives the supporting maps a modern rendering pipeline wants, height, normal, metallic, smoothness and occlusion, with sliders to tune each conversion and a live preview on a 3D model. It can also make textures tile seamlessly and batch-process files through XML clipboard commands, the sort of automation that saved time on the Uncharted Collection. It is a standalone Windows application rather than a library, so it slots in as a quick asset-production step in a pipeline, exporting in common formats. One thing to know: it is procedural, not machine-learning based, so output quality depends on your source image and how much you adjust the sliders.
