Why we included this project

AstrBot is a practical way to get a working AI assistant onto the messaging platforms your team or community already uses, whether that is QQ, Telegram, Discord, Slack, or WeCom. Instead of wiring each platform's API to a model yourself, it gives you a single runtime that connects to many IM services and supports a range of LLM backends. You extend behavior through plugins, and the agent runner, tool calling, and MCP support mean it can do more than answer questions: it can call external tools and carry out multi-step tasks from inside a chat. For developers, the framework side matters: you can build and package your own plugins rather than being locked into a fixed feature set, and a built-in ChatUI covers the case where you want a web interface instead of a messaging app. If you want a self-hosted, open-source assistant and want to keep control over where your data and models live, AstrBot is worth a look.
