Why we included this project

Agnaistic is a self-hosted chat application built around fictional characters, and it is unusually complete for that niche. It supports multiple users and multiple bots in the same conversation, and each user can bring their own AI provider, from OpenAI and Claude to Kobold, OpenRouter, and others, with their own settings and generation presets. That makes it a good fit for someone running a community instance, and writers prototyping interactive characters get a ready-made front end without wiring one together. Optional features add long-term memory and document embedding, and if you skip MongoDB and Redis entirely it runs in a lightweight anonymous mode. For a deployable character-chat platform rather than a library, this is a solid place to start.
