Why we included this project
CowAgent started life as chatgpt-on-wechat, and that background shows: this is an agent built to live inside the messaging apps people already use. It breaks a request into steps and works through them with built-in tools for file access, terminal, browser, scheduling, and web search, and it can pull in extra skills from a hub or through MCP. A three-tier memory and a knowledge wiki it builds on its own mean the assistant gets more useful the longer it runs. One instance can serve WeChat, Telegram, Slack, Feishu, and a web console in parallel, and you can route chat, vision, image generation, and speech to different model providers. It installs with a single command and runs 24/7 on a personal computer or server. For anyone who wants a self-hosted agent without assembling one from parts, it sits between a bare framework and a closed commercial product.
