Why we included this project

PotPlayer already ships a live subtitle translation feature, and this project gives that feature a local AI backend. Translation runs through Ollama-hosted models on your own machine, so subtitle text never hits a cloud API. The plugin includes separate English-to-Chinese and Japanese-to-Chinese modes, each tuned for its language's word order so the output reads naturally rather than like a word-for-word swap. Getting it running is quick: drop the scripts into PotPlayer's translation plugin folder and pick the source language in the settings. Anyone who watches Japanese dramas or American shows without subtitles gets readable Chinese subs without per-use fees, round-trip latency, or their viewing habits leaving the computer.
