Why we included this project

This reading list organizes the fast-moving language-agent literature around the Cognitive Architectures for Language Agents (CoALA) framework. Rather than a flat pile of links, it sorts each paper by the action space it exercises (grounding, reasoning, retrieval, or learning) and by whether the work targets planning or execution, which helps when you are trying to see how agent designs actually differ. Researchers and engineers new to the field can trace the lineage from early prompting chains through ReAct, Reflexion, and generative agents, while practitioners can jump straight to the technique they want to study, such as tool use, self-correction, or memory. The bundled BibTeX file with hundreds of citations is a practical bonus for literature reviews. It is a curated index rather than runnable software, so treat it as a map of the territory, not a tool to deploy.
