Why we included this project
If you edit video for a living but want to stay out of a heavyweight desktop app, FreeCut rebuilds the Premiere-style workflow in the browser. It has a multi-track timeline, frame-accurate preview, keyframe animation with a dopesheet and bezier graph, GPU color scopes, and export to MP4/WebM/MOV/MKV using H.264, HEVC, VP9, or AV1, all rendered locally through WebCodecs and WebGPU. No footage ever leaves your machine: projects live in a workspace folder you choose, and media is referenced rather than uploaded. It also throws in on-device conveniences most browser editors skip, like scene detection, local transcription for auto-captions, text-to-speech voiceovers, and music generation, which makes it a good fit for solo editors and small teams who want a private, install-free tool for rough cuts, social clips, and captioning. It is beta software, so expect rough edges, but the feature depth rivals desktop editors in areas most web tools avoid.
