Why we included this project
Anyone who writes across several apps and wants the same grammar and style help everywhere will find this useful, since it works without copying text between windows. It is a system-wide writing assistant modeled on Apple's Writing Tools that runs natively on Windows, Linux, and macOS. A global hotkey brings up proofreading, rewriting, tone adjustment, and summarization for whatever text you have selected, including webpages and video transcripts. It can use the free Gemini API or local models, with on-device MLX support on Apple Silicon and Ollama elsewhere, so you can keep your content off cloud services when privacy matters. You can also define your own custom buttons with your own prompts, which makes the tool easy to tailor to your own repeated writing tasks.
