Why we included this project
AI agents are only as useful as the context they have about your actual work, and screenpipe builds that context by recording your screen and audio locally, 24/7. It pairs screenshots with the OS accessibility tree, falls back to OCR when needed, and transcribes speech with on-device Whisper, so nothing leaves your machine. The captured activity becomes a searchable memory you can query in plain language, and agents can tap into it through MCP or screenpipe's own pipe system, letting a coding assistant answer 'what did I see in the last five minutes' or fire automations when you start a task. For developers and knowledge workers who want a source-available alternative to Rewind or Microsoft Recall without shipping their data to a cloud recorder, this is a solid fit.
