Why we included this project

SRS is the sort of self-hosted media server that quietly shows up behind a lot of live-streaming products, and teams building their own video stack tend to recognize it immediately. It ingests and redistributes streams across RTMP, WebRTC, HLS, SRT, and MPEG-DASH, so you can publish from OBS or a browser and reach viewers on nearly any device without wiring together services that don't talk to each other. Beyond the usual H.264 and AAC, it handles H.265, AV1, and VP9, and it runs on ARM and RISC-V hardware as well as x86, which makes it a reasonable fit for edge appliances and lower-power boxes. For teams that want a self-hosted backbone instead of a managed cloud offering, the MIT license and official Docker image lower the barrier to testing, and the documentation is thorough enough to go from install to a live stream without much friction.
