Why we included this project

OpenYak is a desktop agent that runs on your own machine, so teams can automate work without handing their files and conversations to a hosted workspace. It is not a narrow coding tool: it reads local documents like DOCX, XLSX, PPTX, PDFs, and CSVs, then produces briefs, tables, plans, and other artifacts in a side panel. The two shared workspaces are the most interesting part. A native Computer view drives macOS and Windows apps through accessibility elements, and a managed Browser profile handles websites; both let a human take over for a delicate step and hand control back. Model choice is open too, from local Ollama or Rapid-MLX to bring-your-own-key calls to OpenRouter, OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google. With local-first storage, per-app and per-site permissions, and human-in-the-loop control, it is a good fit for anyone who wants an agent that works with real desktop software rather than only in a terminal or chat window.
