Why we included this project

ChatDev has long been one of the most cited open-source examples of LLM-powered multi-agent collaboration, and it has clearly outgrown its original software-development focus. The 2.0 release is a zero-code orchestration platform: you define agents, workflows, and tasks in configuration rather than code, then run them against jobs like data visualization, 3D generation, or deep research. Teams prototyping multi-agent systems without wanting to build a framework from scratch get a runnable frontend and backend, plus a working model of how agents are chained and parallelized. The legacy 1.0 branch remains a concrete virtual software company that automates design, coding, testing, and documentation. Between the two, it is a good way to see how far configuration-driven orchestration can take you before you invest in a custom build.
