Why we included this project

OpenAgents treats AI assistants as teammates you can drop into a shared room. It gives you a hosted workspace that works like a messaging app for machines, plus a launcher and CLI that install popular coding agents on your own hardware and connect them to that workspace with a token. The payoff is orchestration without writing glue: you can ask one agent to review code while another writes tests, have them @mention each other, and share files in channels and threads. If you already run Claude Code, Aider, or Codex separately, this is a lightweight way to coordinate them instead of managing each in isolation. It's also approachable for beginners because the web workspace needs no installation and the Python SDK lets you plug in custom agents.
