Why we included this project

Odysseus packs chat, agents, research, documents, email, notes, and calendar into a single Docker Compose stack that runs on your own hardware, with local or API models. The agent layer is where it earns its keep: agents plan, call tools, talk to MCP servers, and carry multi-step tasks with persistent memory and skills that evolve, which makes it useful for automating real workflows instead of just holding a conversation. Deep research reads and synthesizes sources into a cited report, and the email side handles IMAP/SMTP triage, summaries, and reply drafts, so a good chunk of daily knowledge work stays in one place. Teams that want private data on their own infrastructure and no per-seat SaaS bills will appreciate the local-first setup and hardware-aware model recommendations. It is a broad tool rather than a single-purpose one, so budget time for configuration and provider setup before.
