Why we included this project

RTranslator turns two Android phones into a live interpreter: you pair up over the app, connect a Bluetooth headset, and each person hears the other in their own language, with the phones handling recognition and translation in both directions. Everything runs on-device using Meta's NLLB for translation and OpenAI's Whisper for speech recognition, so your words never leave the phones and the app keeps working with no network at all. The walkie-talkie mode is a lighter option for quick exchanges like asking directions or talking to a shop assistant, letting a single phone translate back and forth between two languages in turns. The app is Apache-licensed, installable from a plain APK, comfortable running in the background, and capable of connecting more than two phones at once, which makes it a useful reference for teams building mobile translation tooling. Just bring decent hardware: it wants at least 6GB of RAM and downloads about 1.2GB of models on first run.
