Why we included this project

Shotcut is a mature open-source video editor that runs entirely offline, with no account or cloud dependency. It builds on the MLT framework and FFmpeg, so it can cut, filter, color-grade, and export to a wide range of codecs without locking you into a proprietary project format. The Whisper-based speech-to-text feature auto-generates subtitle tracks from your project audio, which is convenient when you need captions without leaving the timeline. For a small production team or a content operation that wants GPLv3 control over its tooling, this is a genuine alternative to commercial editors, with the whole pipeline staying on your own hardware.
