Why we included this project

Most machine learning repos assume you will clone, run, and move on. This one asks you to sit down with paper and work through the underlying math by hand, with a detailed solution for every exercise. The topics run from linear algebra and optimisation through graphical models, hidden Markov models, sampling, and variational inference, so it covers the foundations you rarely touch when you are just calling a library. That makes it a strong fit for self-study and a ready-made problem bank for university courses, and since you can compile the PDF with or without the solutions, instructors can hand the problems out for assessment. The CC BY license also means educators can adapt exercises for their own materials without asking permission.
