Why we included this project

Koharu is for manga readers who want untranslated series in their own language. The whole pipeline runs locally on your machine: it finds speech bubbles and text regions, OCRs the dialogue, inpaints away the original lettering, then renders the translated text back onto the page using local or cloud LLM backends. Since the vision models stay on your hardware, source images never leave your machine, and what used to be hours of manual cleanup becomes a mostly automated pass. The output is genuinely usable, too: layered PSD export and vertical CJK plus RTL rendering mean the result reads like a real translated page. It ships as a desktop application with installers for Windows, macOS, and Linux, so it is a finished tool rather than a library to wire into your own stack.
