Why we included this project
Zero is for people who want a modern email client but don't want to hand their whole inbox to a big vendor. It's a self-hostable mail application with a unified inbox that pulls in Gmail, Outlook, and other providers alongside its own mail service. What sets it apart is the AI layer: agents and LLMs sit on top of your mail to help draft, summarize, and work through messages. Since you run it yourself, there's no tracking or data collection, and the Next.js and TypeScript codebase is approachable enough to extend. If you've been waiting for an open, self-hosted email product with agent-based assistance built in, this is worth a close look.
