Why we included this project

Streaming video tooling is scattered across dozens of projects, and this community-maintained index saves engineers the slow work of hunting down the right tool. The list is organized by practical concerns: encoding and codecs, packaging, adaptive streaming protocols, players, DRM, and quality metrics like VMAF, so a team can jump straight to the section that matches the problem at hand. It also mixes production-grade projects with learning resources, which makes it useful both for picking a library to adopt and for understanding how the pieces of a streaming pipeline fit together. The companion website adds filtering, which helps narrow the collection down to a specific stack.
